Extremely good, worth the drive to Danbury. We will be back.

This place is great! Stopped by for lunch after hiking at Hanging Rock. Fed a family of four for less than $50, which is very reasonable especially in light of the high quality food and the convenient location. The place is very clean, the service is friendly, and the food was ready quickly. I had the flatbread pizza; my wife and kids had sandwiches. Everything was tasty.

I have been coming to Hanging Rock all my life, most especially over the past almost decade, and always noticed this place and its very nice building. On September 19, after Hawk Watch at Pilot Mountain and before leading my first hike at Hanging Rock for local conservation organizations, I finally tried it… … and it was worth the wait! The buildings are extremely new and sleek, unlike most Danbury establishments, which are historic buildings. All have the same mountain charm to them. The restaurant was covered with beautiful pictures of Hanging Rock and had a wholesome lodge aesthetic to it. I got their Philly, which was good, but I wish I had tried one of their countless original sandwiches which have their own unique touch. There’s so much on the menu to try, and so my only complaint is that it is a lunch-only restaurant, while I almost always go to Hanging Rock in the late afternoon past closing. However, lunch here before Hanging Rock and probably dessert at a nearby place like Rocky’s would be an amazing start to an afternoon out there, so I may have to alter the way I do things for that experience! I felt the Philly could have had more salt and pepper, while the restaurant only appeared to have two shakers of them for all to use, which weren’t very good at shaking out salt and pepper. It, and from the pictures I’ve seen, I can imagine all the sandwiches, are very, very good and at a perfect lunch portion size; out in the Inner Banks I had a massive Philly for lunch, so a lunch portion is a great move for those about to go hike it off! I have to mention the potato salad. The restaurant gives you options on a side between chips you could get at any sandwich place and a few other options. Let me tell you - choose the potato salad, it is literally the best I’ve ever had! The service was very warm and friendly, and not in an in-your-face kind of way or fake friendliness. As someone with masked disabilities, I appreciate this warm balance when I find it. I’ve read it’s a family business and it certainly has that feel; all the staff there seemed very kind and genuinely happy to be there. It’s an amazing place. Highly, highly recommend. There’s just so much that it’s hard to pick, and it all looks so good!
