Tobie Sparks- MayfieldMoratock Park was a great little place to put in my paddleboard. The water was calm enough for me and my dog to paddle around and relax for a while. My only real complaint was that the bathroom was closed. I had also planned to visit the Moratock Iron Furnace across the street, but that area was closed for construction during my visit. I’d still come back because the river access was convenient and the scenery was pretty. For future trips, I’ll keep a grocery bag with my paddleboard gear so I can collect any trash I notice along the shoreline. Some people clearly don’t understand that pack-in, pack-out applies to rivers and parks too.

Noah Maynard (Synirague)Absolutely stunning scenery during the autumn equinox. River is docile and flows healthily. Climbing on the rocks for a spot to sit down was pleasant as well. Very serene spot hidden off of 89 South that is well nurtured.

Bruce InCharlotteI thought that this was in decent shape today when I stopped by. I didn't wander too far off but I did take the opportunity to park here and walk across the street to the Furnace. That entrance is closed because NCDOT is rebuilding/upgrading the bridge here over the Dan River. There were two county sheriff cars here as well, one of whom had used the public restrooms and then returned to his vehicle. So there's an occasional police presence which is helpful. The park itself has a large picnic shelter, lots of space for running about and the beach area for the river. I couldn't tell you what used to be here, but for a brief stop and some walking around, I thought that this park was pretty good.

Kathy CoxPublic restrooms at picnic shelter were closed. Not good!! The park was full of people. There was not a single parking space available by 1:00-1:15. Facilities should have been 100% available.
